Your bird feeder could bring more than color, movement, and birdsong to your backyard. Think rodents.

If seed is spilling onto the ground and/or remaining there overnight, it could well be inviting more than finches and cardinals.

Use a tray or seed catch and clean it regularly.

Store birdseed in a tightly sealed, heavy-duty container.
Keep feeders away from the house, garage, shed, or other areas rodents might call home.
Avoid putting out corn, food scraps, or food piles for deer, squirrels, raccoons, or other wildlife.
Remove clutter, brush, or other potential rodent shelter that is close to your home.
