Mosquito, Tick & Pest Control in Anslee Farms, AL
Just before 7 a.m. on August 28 this year, an Anslee Farms homeowner reached out to us about armyworms. The yard already had a lawn company on it, and the grass was getting eaten anyway. Our office had her on the Yard Defender schedule that same morning, and the account was flagged in capital letters: soak the lawn.
That call says a lot about this neighborhood. Anslee Farms sits off Blake Bottom Road NW in 35806, a finished street on one side and a job site on the other, with farm ground still open beyond the newest phase. Mosquito Squad of Huntsville - Northern Alabama has worked northwest Huntsville since 2018, and a subdivision that's still going up doesn't behave like one that's done.
Why Anslee Farms Pest Pressure Looks Different
Valor Communities is still building here. Homes on Anslee Way and Emma Ann Way have been listed as under construction within the past year, and at least one townhome on Discovery Point Drive was finished in 2025. So a family can move in beside a graded lot, a framed house, and a yard that's been sodded and fed for a few seasons, all on one block. If you bought into one of the newer phases, the lot next to yours may still be bare dirt the week you get your keys, and you'll live beside every stage of the build at once.
Each stage hands something different to the pests nearby. A freshly graded lot is open, turned-over dirt. An established yard is some of the best-fed grass for miles. And the farm ground along Blake Bottom, where the road runs out toward Highway 53, is tall cover nobody mows.
The pests didn't come with the houses. They were already working those fields, and the subdivision went in beside them. Our plog on new construction and pests covers the general version. Anslee Farms adds the half-built part, which moves the edge again every time a new phase opens.
Armyworms and the Lawn Service Gap
The August call is the pattern we'd warn you about. A lawn company feeds and mows on its own calendar, and that doesn't mean anybody's watching for caterpillars between visits. Alabama Extension notes that on mowed lawns, fall armyworm larvae hide deep in the turf through the warm part of the day and feed mostly early and late. A crew cutting grass at noon can walk right over them.
Damage on a well-kept yard moves in days, so the speed on that account mattered. The request was in before seven, and she was booked well before lunch.
The soak note matters too. The same Extension guidance says a light watering several hours ahead of treatment pulls larvae up closer to the surface, and that sprinklers usually stay off for about a day after spraying. Plenty of yards out here run irrigation on a timer, so mention it at booking and we'll plan the visit around it.
Our armyworm control runs through late summer and fall, and that August visit was booked under Squad Yard Defender.
Mosquito Barrier Treatment in Anslee Farms
New construction is full of small water nobody's found yet: downspout extensions, gutters on a roofline that's still settling, a low corner the grader left, and the edge of a covered patio where runoff sits. Our Mosquito Barrier Treatment starts as low as $74 and runs every 21 days, aimed at the north wall, the young foundation shrubs, and the fence line where mosquitoes rest out the afternoon.
That's the core of our mosquito control work out here. We walk your water first, following the 7 T's of Mosquito Control, then treat. Children and pets wait indoors until it's dry, usually 30 to 45 minutes. If you've just put in a garden and want something plant-based, the natural treatment option runs on a tighter schedule.
Tick Control in Anslee Farms
HOA dues here cover common grounds, and some homes back right onto a green space. That's a nice view to have behind the house. It's also a strip where ticks wait, along with any lot that grows up between builds and the field edge past the newest phase. Lone stars lead the list in this part of Alabama. If your back fence faces a green space, look at the line where your sod stops after a wet week. That's where we start, and it's a likely spot for the dog to collect one.
Our tick control puts tick treatment right on the seam where your mowed yard meets taller grass, using the 6 C's of Tick Control. Alabama's public health department reports tick-borne illness in every month, so plan on a late March start.
Fire Ants on Disturbed Ground
Every new phase in Anslee Farms turns over fresh soil, and fire ants claim open, disturbed ground first. Mounds pop up along new sidewalks, beside the pickleball court, and in yards that were clean the spring before. Fire ant control here covers the entire lot so colonies you haven't spotted get treated too, and timing matters more than people tend to think. We explained why in fire ant control as a fall decision.
Year-Round Pest Coverage
When the fields along Blake Bottom get cut and construction stirs up the lots next door, rodents go looking for a warm garage. Home Shield is $99 a month and adds spiders, roaches, and ants around the structure to your yard coverage. Rodents fall under Complete Home & Yard at $119 a month, which covers 40-plus pests and includes Yard Defender. Dogs running those green spaces bring fleas home too, and flea control is part of Yard Defender along with fire ants. With a lawn this well kept, it's usually the better fit.
When to Start
Start ticks and mosquitoes in late March, before the first warm rain. Then watch the lawn from August into October, since that's when a call like the one above tends to come in. Seasonal timing gets more room on our Huntsville blog.
Special Events
Graduation parties and birthday cookouts on a covered patio run well into the evening. Our Special Event Spray starts with barrier work a few days before, and a technician mists the yard again on party day.
