Aedes Mosquitoes Bite During the Day

First, Aedes mosquitoes are most active during the day, whereas others feed only at night. However, their highest activity is in the early morning (just a few hours after sunrise) and in the late afternoon before sunset. Therefore, if you’re outside during these periods for work or evening activities, you’re naturally at greater risk of bites.

Since they can live both indoors and outdoors, they can often bite people inside after sneaking in through open doors or windows. These mosquitoes, in particular, often target lower spots on the body when they’re ready to bite, such as around the elbows and ankles (earning them the nickname “ankle-biters”).

Aedes Mosquitoes Need Very Little Water to Reproduce

Second, Aedes differ from other common mosquito types because they need very little water to reproduce. Plus, their eggs are much more drought-resistant and can survive for several months (or even years) in dry conditions. So, instead of gravitating toward areas with large bodies of standing water like ponds, swamps, or even kiddie pools in your backyard, they’ll go for smaller sources.
