If you’re seeing mosquito control salespeople cold-knocking in your neighborhood, that’s not Mosquito Squad.
During the summer months, we find lots of folks in the Jacksonville area, who are in search of seasonal work during college break. Why not come to a sunny climate to work away your spring and summer seasons, after all? If we didn’t live here, we’d come for the season too!
This is not typically an issue until your neighborhood becomes inundated with door-knocking salespeople unwilling to not take no one coming to the door as a final answer. So…knock again, they do – and again.
What worries us at Mosquito Squad of Northeast Florida, is that some of these neighborhood sales schemes include Jacksonville mosquito and pest control services. What could be the worry, you ask?
Should You Trust Door-to-Door Mosquito Control Company Sales?
Short answer – we’re really not sure. Because we are not familiar with outdoor mosquito and pest control companies, who do door-to-door sales, we’re unsure if these companies are legit. We do not know if they are out for a quick dollar, unable to deliver on any claims they might make. We do not know what types of pesticides they are asking you to apply to your yard. We cannot comment on their services, their contracts, or whether they will even return to treat your yard.
The only thing we can comment on is that they, these would-be mosquito control companies, are NOT us. They are not Mosquito Squad employees or subcontractors. Any claims made to that conclusion would be incorrect. Any claims they might make about offering the same mosquito control treatments would not be true, either.
Potential Issues in Choosing a Cold-Calling Pest Control Company
Even if the person you speak with at your door is simply underprepared to sell the pest control service – meaning, they do not know the product they’re selling or the legitimacy of the pest control company they’re selling for – that is one HUGE issue. Because this type of sales usually takes very little initial “training” false, erroneous claims are often made. Not only that, but these people could be unwittingly selling a total scam, being given a small percentage of any sales, never knowing if the people they sold to will ever receive the service they paid for.
Add to that, the issue with unreliable products or services. If someone is at your door without invitation, selling Jacksonville pest control services, you must be absolutely certain that their pest control products are EPA-registered and intended for the uses they’re being sold for.
According to the FDACS website, these are the current standards that must be met by a legal pest control company:
- Must be registered with the Florida Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services
- Must carry state-mandated insurance coverage limits
- Must employ a Florida-certified operator in charge of pest control operations of the local business, certified in the categories they operate under.

Even if the person has branded attire, if you are not familiar with their business practices, or doubt their validity for any reason – just say no.
