The barrier treatments used in professional mosquito and tick control go on plant surfaces, but they don’t damage plants. The active ingredients work by targeting the nervous systems of insects and arachnids, and plants don’t have the nervous systems that would make this an issue.

Technicians don't need to enter your home for standard mosquito and tick control. The barrier treatment is applied outdoors, to the yard, foliage, and the exterior of the home, so the work happens entirely outside.

Your property likely has more shade, vegetation, moisture, and/or standing water. Any of these four things can give mosquitoes a place to breed and hide.

Retail mosquito sprays wear off quickly, giving the mosquitoes a chance to rebuild. They’re also usually not applied to areas where mosquitoes spend most of their time.

Within a few hours, barrier treatments dry on vegetation and start to work. Within a couple of days, you should see fewer mosquitoes because they will have come into direct physical contact with the product.

Find and remove every source of standing water on your property. Mosquitoes breed exclusively in stagnant water, and eliminating it breaks the breeding cycle at the source.

DIY mosquito sprays can knock down mosquitoes you see in the moment. But they can’t provide the sustained, yard-wide protection needed to keep the population under control through the season. 

Mosquitoes carry pathogens in their saliva. When they bite, the saliva gets into your skin, and that’s how diseases like West Nile virus are transmitted. 

Most homeowners see a clear drop within the first day or two. The treatment knocks down the adult mosquitoes present at the visit, then keeps reducing the population as the residual on your foliage stays active over the following weeks. 

Mosquitoes are worst around July and August in New Jersey. As for time of day, mosquitoes are most active at dusk and dawn.

Carpenter ants are large, about a quarter to half an inch, usually black or dark, with a single waist segment, bent antennae, and an evenly rounded back. But the biggest tell of all are the piles of sawdust-like shavings they leave by the smooth tunnels they make in wood.
