F.A.Q.

How fast do mosquito treatments work after application?

Within a few hours, barrier treatments dry on vegetation and start to work. Within a couple of days, you should see fewer mosquitoes because they will have come into direct physical contact with the product.

If you’re dealing with mosquitoes, you want them gone yesterday. So you’ll be glad to hear that mosquito treatments usually have noticeable effects really quickly.

When technicians apply barrier treatments, the product is misted onto the vegetation, shaded surfaces, and resting areas across your property. Any mosquitoes already resting in those areas are going to be knocked down on contact. That alone can help with mosquito trouble.

As the product dries and bonds to leaf surfaces and other treated areas, it creates a lasting barrier. Mosquitoes that land on treated vegetation over the following days and weeks will come into contact with the product. Then they too will be knocked down.

There is a limit to effectiveness, though. A first-time application controls the existing mosquito population on your property, but it doesn't instantly address every mosquito that might fly in from neighboring lots or emerge from standing water over the next few days. The full benefit of a treatment program builds over the first two to three applications as overlapping cycles of treatment suppress the broader population and prevent rebuilding.

If you’re looking for one more thing you can do to help manage mosquitoes: remove sources of standing water on your property. If larvae are developing in a clogged gutter or hidden plant saucer, you can cut their life cycle short by simply dumping the water. That means when the treatment takes effect, you won’t have another generation of mosquitoes buzzing around and giving you trouble.

If you’re a homeowner in Central New Jersey, Mosquito Squad of Central New Jersey can help. Treatments are done on a recurring basis, typically every three weeks, to maintain the suppression effect throughout the season.
