Walpole tick control
Rarely does a person come in contact with someone from Massachusetts not affected by Lyme disease in some way. If you live here and you haven’t gotten it yourself, you know someone who has. It’s so bad here that it was declared an epidemic in the Commonwealth in 2015. Lyme is so common there are even specialized treatments at day spas!
While a day at the spa always sounds appealing, it’s safe to say that nobody wants to get Lyme disease in the first place. When the CDC released a report in May 2018 that diseases from mosquitoes and ticks had more than tripled in recent years, it was hardly a surprise to anyone here. In Massachusetts specifically, tick-related diseases have exploded to levels never seen before.
The best way to protect yourself from Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases like (the rare, but much worse) Powassan virus is to avoid exposure to ticks all together. While Mosquito Squad can’t protect you when you’re out in the woods, we can protect you at home in your own yard. Our Walpole tick control is guaranteed to eliminate nearly 90% of ticks on your property for up to three weeks at a time, or your money back. By using a combination of our signature barrier treatment that we use for mosquitoes plus an added tactic, we’re able to halt the life cycle of the ticks in your yard and thus, greatly reduce their population long-term.
How our Walpole tick control works
Just like our mosquito treatment, we treat the perimeter of your yard first with our traditional barrier spray, working our way inward, being sure to cover all surface areas, including places ticks are known to hide, like tall grass, leaf piles, wood piles. A barrier treatment alone will eliminate nearly 90% of adult ticks on contact and continue to eliminate them for up to three weeks, but then we go a step further to make sure ticks in their younger life stages are eliminated, too.
Then we get a little help from our furry friends by implementing tick tubes. These are small, biodegradable tubes that are stuffed with a cotton treated with permethrin, a mild insecticide. We place tick tubes strategically around your property where mice and other small animals like squirrels will find them. They like to use cotton to cozy up their nests and burrows, and when they find the cotton in these tubes, they take it back home. In using this cotton for their nests, the permethrin rubs off on their fur.
Contrary to their name, deer ticks don’t actually acquire Lyme disease from deer most of the time — it’s these small critters in your backyard. And it’s usually the ticks in their larva or nymph stages of life that do so. When one of these younger ticks tries to get their blood meal from one of these small animals that have taken the cotton, they’re soon eliminated. Don’t worry, permethrin doesn’t harm the animal — they end up being stealthy little helpers in halting the life cycle of ticks to reduce their population in your yard drastically. Mosquito Squad’s Walpole tick control is the most effective tick control on the market.
