Sharon tick control
If you live in Massachusetts, chances are you or someone one you know has been affected with Lyme disease. It’s so prevalent here that it was actually declared an epidemic in the Commonwealth in 2015.Recent studies have shown how and why some may recover from Lyme disease fully, while others live with it chronically. Regardless, it’s safe to say that nobody wants to get Lyme disease in the first place. When the CDC released a report in May 2018 that diseases from mosquitoes and ticks had more than tripled in recent years, it was hardly a surprise to anyone in the Northeast. In Massachusetts specifically, tick-related diseases have exploded to levels never seen before.
The best way to protect yourself from tick-borne diseases is to avoid exposure to ticks all together. While Mosquito Squad can’t protect you when you’re out hiking in the woods, we can protect you at home in your own yard. Our Sharon tick control is guaranteed to eliminate nearly 90% of ticks on your property for up to three weeks at a time, or your money back. By using a combination of our traditional mosquito control treatments with an added tactic, we’re able to halt the life cycle of the ticks in your yard and thus, greatly reduce their population long-term.
How our Sharon tick control works
The first thing we do is apply a barrier treatment spray, just as we would when treating for mosquitoes. This eliminates about 90% of adult ticks on contact. When we’re concentrating on eliminating ticks, we give extra attention to places they like to hide, like tall grassy areas, woodpiles, leaf piles, and generally anywhere they can hitch a ride on any unsuspecting passers-by.
A barrier treatment spray would be good enough for some companies, but not Mosquito Squad. We then add to our Sharon tick control arsenal these things called tick tubes, which we strategically place around your property. These are small, biodegradable tubes that are stuffed with a cotton treated with permethrin, a mild insecticide. Mice and other small mammals like to use cotton to cozy up their nests and burrows, and when they find the cotton in these tubes, they take it back home. In using this cotton for their nests, the permethrin rubs off on their fur. Contrary to their name, deer ticks don’t actually acquire Lyme disease from deer most of the time — it’s these small critters in your backyard. And it’s usually the ticks in their larva or nymph stages of life that do so. When one of these younger ticks tries to get their blood meal from one of these backyard animals, they’re soon eliminated. Don’t worry, permethrin doesn’t harm the animal — they end up being stealthy little helpers in halting the life cycle of ticks to reduce their population in your yard drastically!
