Oak Ridge properties with wooded lots and heavy canopy cover see less direct sun, which means soil around foundations doesn't dry out the way it does in open subdivisions. Early detection stops expensive repairs. If you catch termites during an inspection before they've compromised load-bearing structures, treatment is straightforward and costs stay manageable. If you wait until floors sag or door frames warp, you're looking at structural work on top of termite treatment.

Treatment depends on termite species and where they're feeding.
Subterranean Termites - These are the ones causing most of the damage in Knoxville. Treatment involves applying liquid termiticide to soil around the foundation perimeter and under the slab if accessible. The termiticide creates a treated zone. Termites that contact it die before reaching wood. Modern termiticides last 5+ years in soil and don't wash out with normal rainfall.
Drywood Termites - Less common here but still present. These termites infest dry wood without needing soil contact. Treatment targets the infested wood directly, either through localized injection or fumigation if the infestation is widespread.

Termite control isn't one-and-done. Colonies reproduce every spring. Swarmers establish new colonies within a few hundred feet of the parent colony. Monitoring appointments let us check bait stations, inspect for new mud tubes, and verify the soil barrier is still intact.
If we find new activity during monitoring, we address it before it becomes structural damage.
Before Swarm Season Starts - Knoxville's termite swarm season runs late March through May, peaking in April when temperatures hit the mid-70s after rain. Swarmers are the most visible sign of termite activity, but by the time you see them, colonies have been established for a while. Schedule inspections in February or early March to get ahead of it.
