Mosquito, Tick & Termite Control in Clinton, TN

A customer on 2.7 acres asked us, the first time he called, to treat only the front part of his property. The back half is open field running down to the Clinch, and he didn't see why anybody would spray ground he never walks on. The following spring he renewed and asked us to go all the way to the river. On a big Clinton lot, that's usually what the first visit comes down to: where the treatment line should stop.

Mosquito Squad of Knoxville has had Clinton on its routes since 2019. The company is veteran-owned, family-run, and based in Oak Ridge about 8 miles south. Our techs cover mosquitoes and ticks in the yard along with rodents, spiders, and termites at the house.

The River Isn't Where the Mosquitoes Come From

People see the Clinch at the bottom of the property and assume that's the source. It rarely is. Clinton sits on the stretch below Norris Dam, and the tailwater from the dam to the Highway 61 bridge near town runs about 13 miles. That water is cold enough that TWRA stocks trout in it, and its level swings with the dam's generation schedule.

Cold, moving water is poor mosquito habitat. Virginia Cooperative Extension says mosquitoes aren't found in rivers or fast water, and any water holding fish also holds something that eats the larvae.

What matters is the ground between the river and the house. UT Extension's guide to mosquito larval habitat in the yard says larvae can become biting adults in 7 to 12 days, and a low spot on a river-bottom lot can hold rain that long after a wet week. Back fields also tend to get mowed less often than the front yard, so the tall grass gives adults somewhere shaded to sit out the afternoon.

River Bottom or Hillside, It Shows Up Differently

On the low lots, it's the back field. The 2.7-acre customer never gave us a reason when he renewed. He wanted the line moved to the water, so we moved it.

On the hillside lots, it tends to show up partway up the slope. A homeowner on one of those lots called about flying bugs "about halfway up the hill" behind her house. Two years earlier, a note on that same property had her grass at four to five inches and damp most of the time, with gnats and other flying insects in it. Neither note mentions the river.

How We Set the Line on a Big Clinton Lot

Clinton properties in our records run from half an acre to almost three. On anything that size, the first visit is a walk and a decision about where treatment stops. Our Mosquito Barrier Treatment goes down every 21 days from $74 a visit and works the cover where mosquitoes rest: low shrubs, beneath decks and porches, along fence rows, and the edge where mowed lawn turns into field. That edge is where most of our mosquito control work on a Clinton lot actually happens.

That same edge is where ticks wait, in the leaf litter where the mower stops and the field or tree line begins. We had a customer sign up for mosquitoes and ask about tick coverage in the same message, and on a lot with a long field edge, that's the right instinct. Tick control treats that transition strip, following our 6 C's of Tick Control.

Tell us what's back there before the first visit. A tadpole pool past the back fence is on one account as a spot never to spray, so every tech who comes out sees it. On another property, the grandkids' playset is the spot the tech has to cover. A tech on another Clinton lot found a bald-faced hornet nest, offered to take it down, and kept his treatment clear of it. A new pool, a garden, a nest you haven't dealt with yet: say so at the start.

Food gardens usually mean a different product. Blueberries, fruit trees, and a garden on one property meant natural treatment from the first call, mostly for mosquitoes and no-see-ums. Our Natural Treatment Option is made from essential oils. It wears off sooner than the barrier product, so the visits come more often.

If your lot backs to the river and you're still getting bitten, the first thing we'll ask is where the line sits now. If that happens inside 14 days of a visit, a tech returns for a free courtesy visit, backed by our satisfaction guarantee. Standing water on the property gets a check too, per our 7 T's of Mosquito Control.

Mice in the Shop, the Cars, and the Crawl Space

Bigger lots come with detached garages and shops, and the house side of the job often starts out there. Mice got into a garage and shop on one Clinton property and chewed through the wiring on two vehicles. One of them doesn't run anymore. We put bait boxes in that building, then added another for a second garage. Months later the same homeowner called about mice in the crawl space getting into the water heater, and after that about spiders down there too.

Rodent control comes with Complete Home & Yard, which starts at $119 a month and takes in more than 40 pests. Home Shield starts at $99 a month and treats the structure on top of the yard. If there's a shop, a second garage, or a vehicle that sits for weeks, tell the office before the first visit.

Termite Control and Termite Letters

When a house changes hands in Tennessee, a Wood Destroying Insect Infestation Report is issued with the sale, and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture says it must be warranted accurate for 90 days. We get those calls around Clinton. A local realtor asked for one direct contact at our office for termite letters on the homes she sells. If you're about to buy, read our termite guide for new buyers first.

When treatment is the answer, our termite program sets bait stations in the soil along the foundation as part of our Integrated Bait Delivery System, and those stations get checked every quarter. A recent Clinton install took 34 stations. The inspection itself costs nothing.

When to Start Treatment in Clinton

Late March or early April for mosquitoes and ticks. The end of the season comes later than most people plan for. Mosquitoes hang on until the first hard frost, which we explained in whether mosquitoes are still around in the fall. For mice, call before the nights turn cool, while they're still scouting the foundation for gaps. If there's a date on the calendar, like family coming into town, our special event sprays go down ahead of it. We moved one visit up a few days for exactly that reason.

Local Service, Local Backup

Our office is at 95 Midway Ln Suite A in Oak Ridge, License No. 5520. First service happens within 48 business hours or it's free, and nobody has to be home for it. Nearby, our techs also cover Oak Ridge, Oliver Springs, and Heiskell, where we wrote about what a holler does to mosquito season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do mosquitoes breed in the Clinch River?

Rarely. The Clinch below Norris Dam is cold, moving water that TWRA stocks with trout, and fish eat mosquito larvae. The breeding happens on land nearby, in low spots, wet grass, and anything that holds rain for a week or more. That's where we focus treatment on Clinton river lots.

Do I have to treat my whole Clinton property?

No. On larger lots we walk the property with you and decide where treatment stops. Some customers leave a back field out, and others take it to the river. If you start small and still get bitten, we can move the line out at your next visit.

Why are mice chewing the wiring in my car?

A vehicle that sits for weeks in a garage or shop is quiet and sheltered, which makes it an easy place for mice to settle in and start chewing. On one Clinton property, mice disabled a vehicle that way. Bait boxes in the building, plus rodent control at the house, is how we handle it.

Do you do termite letters for home sales in Clinton?

Yes. In Tennessee, a Wood Destroying Insect Infestation Report is issued with the sale of a home and has to be warranted accurate for 90 days. Termite inspections are free, and if we find activity, we can quote a bait system for the house.

How late do mosquitoes last in Clinton?

Until the first hard frost, which is later than most homeowners plan for. We keep barrier visits running into the fall for that reason. When someone cancels the last few visits early, the mosquitoes can be back within about a week of the missed treatment.

How much does pest control cost in Clinton?

Mosquito barrier treatment starts at $74 a visit. Home Shield starts at $99 a month, and Complete Home & Yard starts at $119 a month with rodent control. Lot size and how far back you want treatment to go both shape the price, so we quote after a walk. No contract required.
