  • Should I treat my yard for mosquitoes and ticks before outdoor events or parties?

F.A.Q.

Should I treat my yard for mosquitoes and ticks before outdoor events or parties?

Yes, having professional treatment completed 24–48 hours before an outdoor event gives the product time to dry and take full effect. Your guests can expect far fewer mosquitoes and ticks.

You've planned the graduation party, the wedding reception, the Fourth of July cookout. You've handled the food, the seating, the decorations. But you know that the one thing that can derail the whole evening is a yard full of mosquitoes. That would be enough to send everyone inside by 8 PM.

Pre-event treatments are a practical way to make sure mosquitoes and ticks won’t be a problem on the big day. The ideal timing is one to two days before the event. While it only takes about 30 minutes for treatments to dry in typical conditions, the 24–48 hour guideline is set so that the barrier treatment has enough time to begin controlling mosquitoes in the treated areas.

Same-day treatment can work in a pinch. As mentioned above, the treatment doesn’t take long to dry. But 24–48 hours gives you a much stronger baseline reduction because more mosquitoes have stopped to rest in the treated areas.

Tick treatment can also benefit from 24–48 hours of lead time. If your event involves a yard with wooded borders, leaf litter, or shaded edges where guests might walk or kids might play, a tick treatment in those zones can reduce the risk of someone picking up a tick during the event.

If you're planning an outdoor event on your West Michigan Lakeshore property, Mosquito Squad of West Michigan Lakeshore can help. Mosquito Squad offers event treatments timed to your schedule, so your yard is ready when your guests arrive. And if entertaining on your property is something you regularly do, you may also want to consider recurring treatments. One-time treatments work well, but nothing can beat the protection provided by ongoing treatment all season long.
