Extend Your Tick Control to All Year Long

December 20, 2023

Why stop treating your yard for ticks in the fall and winter if you don’t have to?

Get year-round tick control solutions with Mosquito Squad of Southern New Hampshire. Our Mosquito Squad brand leader, Dread Skeeter, refers to our comprehensive tick control treatment regimen as “The One-Two Punch.”

Our two-tier tick control works like this:

One. Residents of the Southern New Hampshire area should contact us for Barrier Treatment Tick Control for protection from April through October. It kills ticks on contact.

Two. Shortly after the Trick-or-Treaters have had their fun canvasing your neighborhood, have Mosquito Squad install highly effective tick tubes throughout your backyard and around your home, where ticks nest during the cooler months.

What is a tick tube, and how does it work?

Similar to the length and form of the center core of a roll of paper towels, cotton is placed in these proverbial sticks of tick dynamite. The cotton material inside the tick tubes is treated with a pesticide that kills ticks. This material is spread throughout your yard by mice, who think the cotton is nesting material provided just for them. Which it is (wink, wink)!

They unknowingly help Mosquito Squad by taking the treated cotton back to their nests for bedding material where the ticks reside and feed. Then WHAM! The ticks are killed once they come in contact with the specially treated cotton. The tick tubes are biodegradable, and our Mosquito Squad professionals know exactly when and where to place them; as well as how many are needed in order to optimally control the ticks on your property.

Tick tube placement areas include exterior recesses around the foundation of your home, recessed areas of your yard where autumn leaves gather, and piles of firewood.

Can I reduce the likelihood of ticks around my property?

Following the Mosquito Squad Six C’s is a great place to start.

Clear Out: Reduce your tick exposure by clearing out areas where lawn and tree debris gathers. Ticks thrive in moist, shady areas and tend to die in sunny, dry spots. Don't position playground equipment, decks, or patios near treed areas.

Clean: Eliminate leaf litter by clearing it from around the house and lawn edges. We also recommend mowing tall grass to keep your lawn short.

Choose Plants: Since deer can bring ticks to your yard, select plants and shrubs that don’t attract deer. You can also install physical barriers to keep deer out of your yard. Check with your local nursery to determine the best choices for your area. Learn which plants deter deer from HGTV.

Check Hiding Places: Know tick hiding places and check them frequently. Fences, brick walls, and patio retaining walls are popular hiding places.

Care for Family Pets: Family pets can suffer from tick-borne disease and can also carry infected ticks into your home. Talk to your veterinarian about using tick collars and sprays.

Call the Pros: Professional tick control can offer two levels of service to eliminate ticks before they get to you. Our traditional mosquito control mist eliminates adult ticks on contact, followed after summer with the tick tubes placed around your property.
