With Rain on the Way, You’ll Need to Prepare Your Yard for Mosquitoes!

Author: Mosquito Squad of South Central Texas

We’ve had a lot of heat with very little rain in the New Braunfels area, and frankly, we’re tired of it! Although we’ve been able to spend endless evenings outside, we also know we need the rain. But with rain also come some nuisances that aren’t always wanted: mosquitoes. A mixture of heat and rain create the perfect environment for the mosquito to rest, feed and reproduce. According to Accuweather.com, we should prepare for extreme mosquito activity!

The Perfect Environment

Mosquitoes prefer their conditions to provide warm, moist weather. Mosquitoes are most active in 80-degree weather, which is why we see them most around dusk. The sun is finally setting, and the temperatures are finally comfortable enough for the mosquito to move about in search of their meal. Mosquitoes need a blood meal from a host to provide protein to her eggs.

You Can Get Relief

Did you know that mosquitoes only need a bottle cap of water to lay their eggs? It’s true! They can lay 300 eggs in a tiny body of water. Which is why it’s important to clear your yard of any toys, dishes, buckets that could collect water during a rain storm and create the perfect environment for mosquitoes to reproduce and lay eggs.

Other than following the 7 T’s of mosquito control, we offer a barrier treatment service that can help protect you from mosquito bites and prevent mosquitoes from reproducing in your yard. Our barrier treatment will cover the foliage surrounding your home and focusing on the underside of leaves where mosquitoes rest to get out of the sun during the day.
