F.A.Q.

Is it cheaper to treat mosquitoes yourself or hire a professional?

DIY mosquito control costs less per application. But you need to re-treat far more often and you don’t cover as much ground, making it a lot less effective. You can expect a far greater return on investment with professionals.

A can of yard spray costs $15–$25. A season of professional treatments costs several hundred dollars. When you compare the two numbers side by side, this seems like a very easy question to answer. But the fine print shows there is a big gap in effectiveness. And it’s hard to talk about cost in a meaningful way without talking about effectiveness.

DIY mosquito control and professional mosquito control vary considerably in terms of effectiveness. A store-bought spray can buy you a few hours of localized control. To maintain any meaningful reduction in mosquitoes across your yard, you'd need to reapply over and over again. Over a full season, that's dozens of applications. The cost of product adds up, and so does the time. If you're spending 30–45 minutes every few days spraying your yard, the labor cost is real even if you're not writing yourself a check.

Professional treatments work on a population level. They are applied to places where mosquitoes rest during the day, as well as to the areas where they breed. Each treatment will last about 21 days, and can reduce mosquitoes by up to 90%. DIY treatments work for a few hours at a time and only in small areas. It does little to help with the larger population, which is the source of the mosquito problem in the first place.

If you have mild or occasional mosquito trouble, DIY control can work. A light spray before a single event can do the job. But if mosquitoes are constantly biting you on your back deck or flying in through the door the moment it’s open, nothing beats professional treatment.

If you're tired of the cycle of spray, wait, re-spray on your Fenton-Brighton property, Mosquito Squad of Fenton-Brighton can help. Mosquito Squad provides consistent, season-long coverage with treatments every 21 days, so you're not spending your weekends re-spraying.
