Oh, the mosquito. The insect world's little vampires. We all recognize them, fear their presence, and secretly wish we could swat them away. However, what if I told you that not all insects that resemble mosquitoes in Winston Salem NC are truly mosquitoes? That's correct, people. The Great Mosquito Impersonation Show welcomes you!
1) Let's start with the Crane Fly, which is sometimes called the "Daddy Longlegs of the sky." Don't be deceived by the appearance of these lanky creatures; they may resemble mosquitoes on steroids. Crane Flies would literally not damage a fly and are utterly harmless. Instead of draining your blood, they would rather relax. Therefore, instead of reaching for your closest fly swatter the next time you see one thrashing around, give it a round of applause for its excellent mosquito mimicry skills.
2) The Phantom Crane Fly will be the next act on our stage. Now, if the ordinary Crane Fly was a mosquito mimic deserving of an Oscar, the Phantom Crane Fly's ethereal presence is worthy of a Grammy. These insects fly through the air like spectral apparitions, their wings so thin they may be considered invisible. But don't worry! In a pillow battle, the Phantom Crane Fly is about as dangerous as a marshmallow. All of it is show, with no substance.
3) Now let's present the midge that doesn't bite. Despite their similar size and stature to mosquitoes, these microscopic insects would rather form coordinated dancing teams than bloodsucking squads. The natural equivalent of flash mobs, midges congregate in big quantities to dance around your porch light as if it were Studio 54. Thus, simply relax and take in the spectacle the next time you encounter them.
4) Presenting the Fungus Gnat, the big finale. They resemble the geeky cousins of mosquitoes, preferring to spend their time in moist dirt instead of buzzing about your ear. Although fungus gnats are not harmful to people, they can be very bothersome if they decide to infiltrate your houseplants. Consider them to be the paparazzi of plants, constantly skulking around your landscape in hopes of catching a sight of that uncommon orchid bloom.
To sum up, not all insects that resemble mosquitoes are trying to bite you. Some are simply misinterpreted entertainers attempting to survive in a world where mosquitoes rule. Mosquito Squad offers professional mosquito control to rid your backyard of mosquitoes and other annoying biting bugs. Call us to learn more at 336-805-5699
