Treating Itchy Mosquito Bites

Bug Bite Remedies

We may eliminate up to 90% of the mosquitoes in your backyard, but it is possible you can still get a couple bites and will get a lot of bites if you venture into the North Carolina outdoors or friends homes that are not treated by a company like Mosquito Squad. As your local mosquito authority, we wanted to share some of the top all natural remedies for soothing that itch from a mosquito bite. Of course there are a number of over the counter creams, lotions and ointments but we want to share some other possible home remedy itch killers.

We found well over 40 ideas on the Internet that claim to take care of a mosquito bite itch. Most are old wives’ tales, but here are some of the all-time most popular mosquito itch remedies we’ve found.

Finely chop an aspirin with some water to make a paste. Spread the paste onto the mosquito bite and let it dry.

Hot Spoon

Get a spoon very hot by running hot water over it. Apply the back of the spoon on the mosquito bite until the spoon has cooled off. They say the heat will destroy the protein that causes the mosquito itch. **Be careful not to burn yourself.**

Clear Nail Polish

Brush clear nail polish to the itchy area and let it dry. This is great quick way to stop the itch.

Baking Soda Paste

Like the aspirin remedy, you’ll want to add a little bit of water to a little bit of baking soda. Dab the paste to the mosquito bite and let it dry.

Lemon Juice or Lime Juice

Apply a sliced lemon or lime directly to the itchy spot.

Some less common mosquito bite remedies. While we haven’t tried them all, we are noticing that these itch relief tips are being shared by those who have tried them:

  1. Dab on Peppermint Toothpaste
  2. Rub the itchy spot with the inside of a Banana Peel
  3. Rub a dry bar of soap over your mosquito bumps
  4. Dab baby shampoo onto the bite and let it dry
  5. Dab rubbing alcohol on the bite
  6. Rub your mosquito bite with antiperspirant deodorant
  7. Apply Vicks Vapo Rub to your itchy mosquito bites

These are just a few of what is out there. Do a quick google search and there are more than you may want to read. There’s even a Pinterest page dedicated to it.
