These large, slow flies have a checkered pattern on their bodies and are often found in homes during cooler months. Fruit flies are tan and small with distinctive red eyes. They are commonly seen near ripening or decaying fruits and vegetables. Fruit fly infestations are especially common during late summer and early fall when many fruits are ripening and homes are warmer.
These flies are common in homes, restaurants, and farms. They breed in decaying organic matter, garbage, and manure, which makes them carriers of bacteria and diseases. They can be distinguished by the black and gray stripes along their body.
Horse flies are large, sometimes over an inch long. They’re also quite fast and are especially known for their painful bites. Female horse flies require blood for reproduction. They are commonly found near water, where their larvae develop in moist soil.
