Historically, fleas played a huge role in the transmission and spread of bubonic plague. While that’s somewhat more of a concern of the past, today’s fleas can transmit tapeworms, cat scratch disease, and murine typhus. Their itchy bites can also trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals and animals.
