West Nile Virus Season in Southeastern Mass Means it is Time to Crank up the Mosquito Control Efforts

December 20, 2023

Now is the time for mosquito control in Southeastern Massachusetts. West Nile virus season is upon us and protecting your family and pets is of utmost importance.

You might think, now that the Fourth of July has passed it is too late to manage the mosquitoes on your property. After all, summer comes to a close rather quickly after the holiday, and you just feel you waited too long.

At Mosquito Squad of Southeastern Massachusetts, we want you to know it is NEVER too late to take back your yard. While every mosquito treatment furthers the mosquito control from the one before, each mosquito control barrier treatment stands strong on its own.

So, whether you signed up for a full season of treatments before the snow melted or are just starting now, there are weeks left of summer still to enjoy without mosquitoes.

West Nile Virus Season is Time for Mosquito Protection

mosquito Shortly after the 4th of July holiday, a mosquito in Massachusetts tested positive for West Nile virus for the first time this year. The positive sample was collected in Boston. Once the mosquitoes come back positive for WNV, human risk increases and will continue to increase through the month of August.

West Nile virus (WNV) is harmless for most, but for a small portion of those who get WNV, there is a risk for encephalitis or meningitis. Read all the symptoms of West Nile virus so you can be aware and see a doctor at the first signs of infection.

To keep a close eye on the spread of West Nile virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis by mosquitoes, check the Department of Health and Human Services’ arbovirus page regularly.

Partial Season Mosquito Control

When you call for mosquito control services, we’ll update you as to how many treatments are currently available in a regular three-week cycle, for the season. You will only pay for the treatments you need, allowing you to enjoy your yard for as much time as you’d like.

If your summer doesn’t come to a close until after Labor Day, we can sign you up for treatments all the way to the end of the mosquito season. But if your kids are home for the summer from college, and once they leave, you tend to stay indoors more again, we can sign you up for only the number of treatments your lifestyle requires. Our custom approach to mosquito control means you can get only the treatments you want.
