F.A.Q.

How long does a professional pest control treatment last?

For mosquitoes and ticks, a professional barrier treatment typically lasts two to three weeks per application. Other pest treatments vary by species, but most require recurring service to maintain control throughout the active season.

You want the mosquito and tick populations on your property under control. But you may still wonder: why won’t one treatment alone do the job?

Mosquito and tick barrier treatments are commonly provided as a recurring service. The product is applied to vegetation and resting areas and remains active as pests come into contact with treated surfaces. When pests contact the vegetation, they are knocked down, which works well because it controls mosquitoes and ticks on a population level rather than on an individual insect level.

But the treatment, tough as it is, doesn’t last forever. Sun and rain will eventually degrade the product to the point where it doesn’t work any more. That is why applications are scheduled every two to three weeks.

Treatment is reapplied every three weeks so populations never have a chance to rebuild between visits. This is enough to maintain up to 85-90% reduction in mosquito activity throughout the season.

Beyond mosquitoes and ticks, every pest is a little different. With rodents, inspection and treatment may be followed by monitoring visits over several weeks to confirm the population is on the decline and no new entry points have shown up. With stinging insects, the plan depends on the species and the amount of nests. For ants and other crawling insects, a perimeter treatment every season might just be enough.

No matter the pest, the schedule is ultimately driven by biology. Pest control is not about going after individual pests, but about controlling populations. For pest control programs to work, they must be designed around that principle.

Mosquito Squad of Southeast PA builds treatment programs around the pests and the issues you have on your property. The schedule is based around what is needed to keep pests in check where you live. A technician will walk your property, figure out the details of your specific situation, and come up with a custom plan accordingly.
