F.A.Q.

Can I leave my pets in the yard during a pest control treatment?

It's best to keep pets indoors while the technician is applying the treatment, then let them back out once the treated areas have dried. This usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour.

You might worry about your pets being exposed to pest control treatments. It’s an entirely reasonable worry, so it helps to know what to expect ahead of time.

During the visit, bring pets inside. And you’ll want to keep them in until the application is finished and the surfaces have dried. You simply don’t want pets outside when the product is still wet on foliage.

As for the drying time, the guideline is “dry” and not a fixed number of minutes. Once the treatment has dried onto the foliage, it's bound to the leaf surfaces where it does its work, and the open lawn where the dog runs around isn't the target anyway. On a day that’s warm and breezy, this might take about 30 minutes. But if it is humid or cooler, it could take an hour or maybe even longer.

After it's dried, pets can use the yard normally. There's no need to keep them off it beyond the drying window. The only other thing you may want to do is bring in water bowls just so they don’t catch any drift.

Also worth keeping in mind is that ticks are a problem in this part of the country. Treatment cuts down on what your dog would otherwise pick up along brushy edges. It’s a good complement to the tick preventative your vet recommends.

If you're tired of juggling the dog's schedule around yard care, Mosquito Squad of New Haven & Fairfield County can help. Mosquito Squad treats the resting and breeding zones where mosquitoes and ticks gather, helping protect your family with up to 90% reduction in mosquito activity on a recurring 21-day cycle.
