Your Suffolk County Tick & Mosquito Control Awaits

December 20, 2023

Every summer we make plans to spend more time outside, explore new states, or simply relax at home. Summer is a season of nearly endless possibilities with the vast number of activities available to those living in the United States. There are very few things that are hazardous about taking time to enjoy the weather, but a couple are significant and deserve your attention. Mosquitoes and ticks are running rampant in the Northeastern U.S. every year, with seemingly no end in sight. Indeed, huge numbers of ticks and mosquitoes are our new reality as their populations boom. In past decades, such growth wouldn’t draw too much attention, but research indicates that mosquito and tick-borne diseases are on the rise and could cause a significant health crisis. Lyme disease, for example, can be found throughout Long Island and is transmitted by ticks. How common is it, though? Studies have demonstrated that over 50% of deer ticks (one of the most common ticks) in Long Island carry this bacterial disease. So, chances are if you are bitten by a tick, it is likely infected. It is important to note that Lyme disease can take around 24 to 48 hours, so you won’t be infected immediately, but it pays to check yourself for ticks every time you go outdoors.

Mosquitoes are also capable of spreading diseases like the Zika virus, West Nile virus, and others after a quick bite, so you need to be equally vigilant about keeping mosquitoes away from your person. Easier said than done, we know, but there are convenient solutions that don’t include misting yourself with pungent anti-pest chemicals.

Northport mosquito control is here to help

Although mosquitoes and ticks don’t get a huge amount of attention in the news, they should. As if we didn’t have enough diseases and viruses already, tick and mosquito-borne diseases pose a real threat to your health and happiness. Many of these diseases are curable, but many can result in chronic conditions that are difficult to recognize and treat. Lyme disease is one of these, and mild symptoms are nearly indistinguishable from many other common ailments. Further, a chronic infection can result in serious conditions including painful joint swelling, organ inflammation, and even short-term memory loss. If you feel defenseless against the pests in your yard, Mosquito Squad has the solutions.
