You signed up for mosquito control, your first mosquito treatment is coming up, and you're not entirely sure what to expect. In this brief post, we’ll discuss what happens during your first treatment withMosquito Squad of East Denver, so nothing catches you off guard.
The First Mosquito Treatment in East Denver is Usually in May
First treatments in Denver typically happen in mid to late May. This is when temperatures are warm enough for mosquitoes to be active, but before they have had a chance to do much. The mosquito treatment works best when used against active mosquitoes whose populations haven’t gotten out of control, which is why early-season treatment is the sweet spot.
If you live closer to Denver’s urban core, that will probably push your treatment up a week or two on the calendar. It tends to be warmer in Denver than in the foothills or the mountains. Your technician will work with you to time the treatment based on weather conditions where you live.
The Technician Walks Your Property First
Before treating your property, a technician will walk your property. This gives them a chance to find out where mosquitoes are breeding or resting.
Irrigation systems, planters and saucers, and clogged gutters tend to call out to mosquitoes early in the season. Techs will no doubt make note of all those. They’ll also look for shaded vegetation (especially along fence lines), places where water tends to pool, and areas under decks and patios.
Every property is different, which is why treatment always starts with inspection. That way, the treatment is customized to the problems you have (or are likely to have, if you’re planning early).
How Mosquito Treatment Works
When treating your property, a technician will apply Barrier Treatment Plus to the areas found during the walk. This is an EPA-registered Essential Botanical Insecticide, based on plants, that goes on foliage, under decks, around patios, along fence lines, and anywhere else mosquitoes rest during the hot afternoons.
The treatment coats surfaces where mosquitoes land. When they make contact with treated vegetation, the product gets onto them. This is what makes the treatment work since it’s not a fog (or a force field) in the air. Mosquitoes can fly, but the moment they rest on treated parts of your property, the treatment takes effect.
This works well enough to cull mosquito populations by as much as 90%. And that can make a huge difference in how it feels to spend time outside.
Once applied, the product takes about 30 minutes to dry. Once dry, kids and pets can use the yard normally.
You may still see mosquitoes on the first day. That’s normal because mosquitoes need to land and rest before the treatment gets onto them. You can expect a noticeable reduction in their numbers after 24-48 hours.
Your first treatment isn't a one-and-done fix. Mosquito control works through consistency. Each individual treatment remains effective for up to 21 days, and your technician returns on that schedule to reapply throughout Denver's summer season so you remain protected.
Thinking About East Denver Mosquito Control?
If you’re planning to have your property treated, there are a few things you can do to make everything go smoothly. First is to mow the grass, which means the treatment will work better and mosquitoes will have fewer resting spots to hide. The other big thing is to pick up toys, pet bowls, and anything else sitting around your patio area that may hold water or that you don’t want treatment to end up on.
If you choose to work with Mosquito Squad, you should know that no contracts are required. You can try the first treatment, see the results, and decide from there.
