F.A.Q.

How are rodents getting in my house?

Rodents like mice are able to squeeze through holes the size of a dime and rats chew openings wider when they need to. Small gaps are enough to let them in, and that includes door gaps, foundation cracks, roofline seams, vents, and every wall penetration a pipe or cable makes.

No house is completely sealed from pests as small as rodents. Time, weather, and ordinary settling constantly open new gaps for rodents to get inside. Rodents don’t like temperature swings. Summer heat and winter freezes will send them looking for shelter. And to them, shelter looks a lot like it does for you: quiet, warm, and full of food. Until you find out how they are getting in, the problem will persist.

Rodents are tiny and even the smallest places allow them to squeeze in. Gaps around the doors, small settling cracks in the foundation, and spaces around utility lines and pipes are all they need. There are also plenty of seams along the roofline, soffits, gutters, roof and gable vents, attic openings, and chimney flues. All it takes is one good entry point for rodents to get in.

Once inside, rodents can travel unseen through walls, ceilings, and crawl spaces. As long as they have shelter and access to food, they can multiply.

If you have a rodent infestation on your hands, you need a professional’s help. Once you notice the problem, it takes a while to fix. A professional can find out how they’re getting in and seal the gaps. They can also deal with the existing population with traps and baits. From there, they can do annual inspections to seal up new gaps and deal with any problems they find early.
