F.A.Q.

Does rain make my pest control treatment ineffective?

Not usually. Most professional treatments are designed to be rain-resistant once they've dried, which typically takes 30 minutes to an hour. Light rain after that point won't wash away your protection.

It’s frustrating to pay for a pest control treatment only to see rain in the forecast. You start wondering if you are wasting your money. And that concern makes sense, because it’s not unreasonable to think the pest control treatment can simply…wash away.

But the reality is more reassuring than you might expect. Modern pest control products are formulated to bond to surfaces once dry. That means that they adhere to grass, foliage, siding, and soil rather than sitting on top. Once the bonding happens, light to moderate rain won’t wash the product away. In fact, a little rain can sometimes even increase the efficacy of certain granular treatments that need a little water to release their active ingredients.

Having said that, if you have a pest control treatment done and then the bottom falls out within an hour, that’s a different story. This is the one scenario where rain can compromise treatment quickly. If a severe storm rolls in before the treatment has dried, there’s a chance it could dilute or wash away some of the product. That’s why most pest control companies monitor weather forecasts closely and will reschedule if heavy rain is imminent.

All pest control treatments—liquid and granular—will eventually break down over time. UV exposure, temperature swings, and repeated heavy rain will gradually erode effectiveness. That’s one reason that recurring treatments work much better than one-time applications. Each new visit refreshes the barrier before it fully degrades.
