Early this week, the World Heath Organization (WHO) held an emergency meeting around an influx of Zika virus diagnoses. The Zika virus, which is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito, typically carries symptoms of fever, skin rash, and conjunctivitis, but can be extremely serious when contracted by pregnant women. In adults the symptoms only last a few days but can cause serious birth defects for children in utero.

There is currently no cure or vaccine for Zika.

The Zika virus was first identified in Uganda but has since been recorded in Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific. The largest threat of Zika in the U.S. comes through travelers coming back to the U.S. from areas of the world where the virus is apparent.

Since Zika is transmitted by mosquitoes, decreasing exposure to mosquitoes is imperative: “The outbreak of Zika virus has once again put the spotlight on mosquito control. It’s imperative that homeowners and commercial property owners take an aggressive approach to mosquito elimination and help their community reduce mosquito breeding grounds,” said Rob White, Mosquito Squad’s vice president. “While the type of mosquitoes that carry Zika are present in the U.S., at this time no Zika infected mosquitoes have been detected in our country. The same kind of mosquito also carries other diseases typically contracted abroad including Chikungunya and Dengue so proactive mosquito control is something that everyone can, and should, make a part of their lives.”

Mosquito Squad is America’s leading mosquito control company providing homeowners with effective mosquito treatments for their yard. Our effective barrier treatment eliminates mosquitoes on contact and provides continuous protection for up to 21 days. At that time our trained technicians return to the property to reapply the treatment.

For more continuous control, the Squad offers mosquito misting systems that have short bursts mosquito eliminating treatment at times when mosquitoes are known to be most active.

In addition to professional mosquito control minimizing the standing water on a property cuts down on its mosquito population as these pests require water to breed.
