F.A.Q.

How do you know if you have mice in your walls?

Repeated scratching or scurrying inside a wall at night is a big warning sign. If you hear this along with droppings, gnaw marks, or a musty odor, you may have a rodent infestation.

Houses make plenty of noises on their own. So you naturally don’t want to assume every pipe click or ductwork expansion is a mouse. But if you hear quick scratching or light rustling for a few seconds at a time, followed by silence and then more movement, that’s a different story.

That kind of sound often happens when mice travel around studs, pipes, insulation, and wiring. You can often find physical evidence to back up what you’re hearing too. Check baseboards, lower cabinets, the spaces beneath sinks, behind appliances, and around plumbing or utility openings. Small dark droppings, chewed food packaging, gnaw marks, or shredded paper and insulation make rodent activity much more likely.

Stale or musky smells can also occur. That smell is often associated with mice urine, so if you smell something like this in confined areas, rodents could be to blame.

Rodents have to get inside somehow. It’s not always obvious how, though. Mice can squeeze into holes the size of a dime. They often work their way in through gaps around pipes, damaged vents, worn door seals, foundation openings, and other small breaks in the exterior. If you can find out how they’re getting in, that can help you seal up the entrance once you deal with the current infestation.

If you keep hearing movement inside the walls or finding fresh rodent evidence, you need a professional. That’s a sign of a serious rodent infestation that can be difficult to clear without help.

Mosquito Squad of Leominster can help. A technician will inspect the property, help identify where mice are entering and traveling, and recommend professional rodent control. Call (978) 321-2670 or request a free quote online.
