Helping Cape Cod Homes Stay Ahead of Termites
Termites work out of sight. On Cape Cod, they can go unnoticed in older and seasonal homes until the damage is done, and by the time most homeowners spot a problem, the colony has often been active for a while. Our trained technicians inspect for termites, identify the signs, and treat with EPA-registered products applied per label instructions. Cape Cod Mosquito Squad is locally owned and operated, serving Cape Cod since 2014 and fully licensed in Massachusetts (License AL-0054568).
Termite control sits alongside our other pest control services across the Cape.
The Termites Cape Cod Homeowners Face
In our region, the concern is the eastern subterranean termite. Colonies live in the soil and build pencil-width mud tubes to travel from the ground up into a home's framing, sills, and support posts, staying hidden the whole way. Colonies grow large over time, so damage adds up the longer it goes unnoticed.
Termites are most visible in spring, when winged swarmers, called alates, leave the colony to start new ones. On the Cape, swarms typically happen from March into June. Finding swarmers or their discarded wings indoors can be the first visible sign of an active colony.
Many Cape homes are older, sit on damp lots, or stay closed up through the off-season. Crawlspaces, fieldstone foundations, and wood-to-soil contact around decks and porches give subterranean termites the moisture and access they look for.
Signs of a Termite Problem
Catching termites early limits the damage. Watch for:
▸ Winged swarmers or discarded wings near windowsills and doors in spring
▸ Pencil-width mud tubes on foundations, crawlspace walls, or piers
▸ Wood that sounds hollow when tapped or gives way easily
▸ Bubbling or uneven paint, or floors and trim that feel soft
▸ Mud or soil packed into cracks and joints in framing

Termites or Carpenter Ants?
The two are easy to confuse, and they call for different treatment. Carpenter ants hollow out damp wood to nest but don't eat it; termites consume the wood. The swarmers help tell them apart. Termite swarmers have straight, beadlike antennae, forewings and hindwings of about equal length, and a broad body with no pinched waist. Ant swarmers have bent antennae, longer front wings, and a narrow, wasp-like waist. If you're seeing large ants rather than termites, see our ant control page.

How Our Termite Control Works
Termite control starts with a thorough inspection. Our trained technicians check the foundation, crawlspace, sills, and any wood-to-soil contact, confirm whether termites are active, and trace the routes the colony uses to reach the structure. That inspection shapes a treatment plan for your specific home rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

We use EPA-registered products applied by trained technicians per label instructions. These products are non-toxic and environmentally protective. We also use 3 natural products for those who want an alternative approach.
We'll also point out the moisture and wood-to-soil conditions that draw termites, such as damp crawlspaces, buried wood, and mulch piled against siding, since addressing those conditions can reduce the chance of a return.
