Why It’s More Important than Ever to Spend Time in Your Yard

May 14, 2020

What is it about sitting outside that makes the stress of the day just melt away? To be honest, even we can’t always pinpoint exactly what it is — but we know it when we feel it.

With so many parks and trails closed due to COVID-19, you’re going to have to rely on your own backyard to provide you with that indescribable feeling. For that reason and more, having a safe, comfortable yard has never been more important.

Why Now’s the Time to Love Your Yard

Your Yard is a Retreat from Your Home

It may only be a few steps away from your living room, but your yard can still be a place of refuge. After a long day of working from home and trying to figure out your little one’s math homework, walking onto a lush lawn and feeling the sun on your face is exactly what you need.

Even during a quarantine, you can take full advantage of your yard:

  • Enjoy dinner outside by the grill.
  • Grab your favorite book and read in the sun.
  • Practice yoga or meditation while outside.
  • Take your laptop outside when you’re feeling “stuck” at work.

Your Yard is Your Kids’ Playground

Parks are closed. Pools are closed. Gymnasiums are closed — so what’s a kid to do (more importantly, what are parents supposed to do!)? Right now, it’s all up to your yard to entertain your little ones and keep them active. If you feel like your kids are spending too much time in front of the TV, try:

  • Creating a chalk-made obstacle course.
  • Pitching a tent and camping out in the backyard.
  • Playing tag.
  • Having a water balloon fight.

Your Yard Can Be a Place for (Safe) Gatherings

Ironically, social distancing has brought many people together in remarkable ways. Drive down any street in the late afternoon and you’ll find neighbors gathered together on the lawn, sharing a glass of wine and keeping each other company during these stressful times.

We may not be able to gather in living rooms and dining rooms right now, but that doesn’t have to keep you from spending time with the ones you love.

With all this time spent outdoors, make sure your yard is prepped. At Mosquito Squad, we’re proud to eliminate annoying mosquitoes and ticks from the backyards of families across the nation and around the world. Visit our site or give us a call today!
