You spent months, maybe even a year or more planning that special day when you finally say “I Do”. If you plan to exchange your vows and celebrate outdoors, did you ensure you did not invite the unwanted guests…..that is pesky mosquitoes, gnats and other insects?

You ask, is it too late to ensure these unwanted guests do not crash and ruin your special day? No, it’s not too late, there are creative and unique tips to help ensure your event is bite free…..

The Venue – When selecting your venue and the time for your ceremony, did you select one that provides outdoor mosquito and biting insect control BEFORE the big day? If you are unsure, contact the venue and inquire whether they have or will have the venue treated by a professional such as Mosquito Squad of Tampa Bay.

Flowers & Plants – There are certain plants and flowers that actually help in repelling mosquitoes, gnats and other biters. Not only will they help in keeping the bugs away, they will also add natural beauty to your décor. Try to incorporate these into bouquets, centerpieces and accents around the areas (buffet tables, bars, gazebos, etc.) where you and your guests will be. Some to consider are marigolds, lavender, lantanta, geraniums, mums, eucalyptus, and lemongrass.

Dryer Sheets – Yes, dryer sheets, those that are in your laundry room may also help repel mosquitoes and even gnats. Dryer sheets contain an essential oil called linalool which is found naturally in over 200 plants and is abundant in lavender, eucalyptus, and lemongrass. Since Bounce® has been tested, it’s been said that it is the best recommendation for a dryer sheet that repels mosquitoes. Consider attaching dryer sheets under chairs, buffet tables, bars an even in the groom’s pants pocket!!!

Natural Candles – Use natural candles on tables and bars to help keep these pests away. They are natural, pretty, make nice accents and best yet are easy and inexpensive to make yourself. Just get some jars, mason ones are a nice touch, and decorate with colored ribbons. Once you have your jars, slice fresh lemons and limes and place them in the jar along with a few sprigs of basil. Then simply fill the jar with water, add some drops of lemongrasss oil and top with a floating candle.

PREVENTION is the Best Course of Action

Prevention is key and is the best course of action to help ensure you, your guests and other professionals can relax and enjoy knowing that your venue will be protected from these unwanted guests.
