Mosquito Squad’s favorite All-American apple pie

This is a great, yummy desert to make and serve to your guests or to bring to a party / BBQ that you will be attending as a guest. Here’s what you need and the simple steps to the perfect All-American Dutch Apple Pie.

  • Crust – Make it easy on yourself and buy a refrigerated pie crust from your local grocery store.
  • Filling – Make sure you have the following ingredients on hand and ready to construct your pie.
    • 6 cups of sliced, peeled apples. Mosquito Squad prefers “Granny Smith” apples as they hold up really well when baking,
    • 1/3 cup of sugar,
    • 3 tablespoons of flour, prefer all-purpose,
    • 11/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon,
    • ¼ teaspoon of salt,
    • Dash of nutmeg (optional), and
    • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, fresh squeezed or store bought will do the trick.
  • Topping – Now time to make the yummy crumb topping. It’s simple and here is what you will need.
    • 1/3 cup of butter, cold preferred but room temperature is fine,
    • ¾ cup of flour,
    • ¾ cup of brown sugar, and
    • ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon.

Now that you have the crust, filling and topping all ready, it is time to construct your pie. Here’s how.

  • Preparation - Place a piece of foil on the oven rack below the middle rack to catch any drips from the baking process.
  • Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Place pie crust in a 9” pie plate, glass is preferred.
  • In a large bowl, gently toss the Filling ingredients until the apples are evenly coated and spoon the filling into the pie crust.
  • Mix the topping ingredients, using a fork to form crumbs and evenly sprinkle over the apple filling.
  • Bake on the middle rack at 400 degrees for a total of 45-55 minutes until the pie crust and toppings are golden brown. After the 1st 15 minutes of baking, cover the pie loosely with foil to prevent burning the crust and crumbs.
  • Once fully baked to a delicious golden brown, remove from the oven and cool on a rack before serving.
  • Once cooled, it’s time to enjoy. Try a slice with some vanilla ice cream for a cool, delicious desert.
  • Refrigerate any leftovers which makes for a refreshing breakfast or another desert…. Enjoy!!!!
