Making a Difference: World Malaria Day 2015 and Beyond

Why is the mosquito considered “public enemy #1?” It is because mosquitoes are the vectors (carriers) of some of the deadliest viruses and diseases that people fall victim to every year. Diseases including West Nile Virus, yellow fever, dengue fever, chikungunya and the worst of all of these combined: malaria. Each year, over 500,000 children die of malaria, primarily in Africa, India, and Asia.

It is estimated that over half of the world’s population is at risk for contracting malaria. In 2013, there were approximately 198 million cases of malaria around the world. Thankfully, malaria is not a problem here in the United States, but many other countries are not as fortunate.  This Saturday, April 25, is World Malaria Day. We can do something here in Topsfield to help reduce the number of people who suffer from malaria and to lower the annual mortality rate as well.

Prevention

Mosquito Squad of the Northshore MA mosquito control protects our families, our friends, and our pets. This allows us to get out in our yards and nature without the nuisance of biting mosquitoes and the risks associated with West Nile Virus. Here at Mosquito Squad, we want to help do our part to prevent the spread malaria around the world.

It only costs $10 to supply a family with a treated bed net which can be used to protect, on average, two sleeping children from mosquitoes. Since 2004, Malaria No More has donated more than 1 billion nets around the globe in areas where they are most needed! So not only are you getting to enjoy a mosquito-free yard this season, you are helping protect others as well. Active prevention: that feels good.

Treatment

To honor World Malaria Day, we are offering a second way to help in the fight against malaria: our $1 matching program. The $1 goes towards treatment of someone sick with malaria. It only costs $1 to provide the test and an effective course of antibiotics for one person. So, when you donate a $1, we will match it. Not just on World Malaria Day, but all season long, from March through September. That equates to two lives that you will positively impact with just $1. Can you donate more than once? Certainly! We will gladly match your $1 more than once as well. Perhaps, you will donate a $1 each time we come out and mist? How many lives will you save by such a simple gesture? It is a great way to make a difference this season. We hope you will consider joining us in our “Nets and Meds” program. We will honor your donation, regardless of whether you are a client of ours or not: we deeply appreciate your help in both the prevention and treatment of malaria. We welcome your donation today!

The Goal

Our big, hairy audacious goal this season is to make a combined donation, both of nets and meds, of over $10,000! To date, we’ve already passed the $1,000 mark and our season has just officially started. Mosquito Squad of the Northshore MA mosquito control offers a 100% satisfaction guaranteed, EPA-approved barrier treatment program. Reducing 85% – 90% of mosquitoes and adult ticks from your entire landscape: not just the perimeter of your home! Now is also the time to contact us for our amazing tick tube program. Stop thousands of ticks in their larval and nymph stage from emerging onto your property! If you are interested in learning more about proactive protection throughout the season from mosquitoes and ticks for your entire property, call us today.
