F.A.Q.

How can you prepare for mosquito season before temperatures rise?

The best thing you can do is clear standing water and clean up the yard while the population is still small. Scheduling early treatment also helps reduce the starting population.

The best time to deal with mosquitoes is before you see them. Once the weather warms and the first generations hatch, the population climbs fast. The work you do in late winter and early spring pays off all season.

At the beginning of the warm season, overwintered eggs and adults become active. This is the first generation of mosquitoes for the year. The larger that generation is, the larger subsequent generations will be. If you knock down the early population, you’ll have a smaller population to deal with for the rest of the year.

Most of the prep comes down to removing water before mosquitoes have a chance to breed in it. You can do this by walking the property and emptying anything that holds standing water. We’ve seen water collect in all kinds of places, like clogged gutters and downspouts, containers and buckets, tarps, planters and saucers, low spots that puddle, and blocked drains. Then from there, it helps to trim back overgrown vegetation.

As it warms, start checking for early breeding, since the first standing water of spring is where the season begins. And line up your first barrier treatment for the start of the season rather than waiting until the bugs are already bad, so the barrier is in place as the population would otherwise be ramping up.

If you're tired of spending the start of every summer already losing the mosquito battle, Mosquito Squad of the Jersey Shore can help. Mosquito Squad can start the barrier early in the season to get ahead of the population, helping protect your yard with up to 90% reduction in mosquito activity on a recurring 21-day cycle.
