F.A.Q.

What does a rodent inspection include?

Rodent inspections are all about finding evidence of mice or rats. This involves figuring out where they travel or nest, what attracts them, and the openings they may use to enter.

Rodent inspectors are not just looking for the rodents. They want to find out how they got in and what they’re doing while there. That information helps them figure out how to get rid of them.

Inside the house, that can mean looking for droppings, gnaw marks, damaged food packaging, shredded nesting material, rub marks, odors, or noises inside walls and ceilings. Where these telltale signs of rodents are found says as much as the presence of the evidence itself.

Droppings under a sink, for example, can suggest that rodents are crawling in through the gaps around pipes. Greasy rub marks on baseboards can point toward a wall where there is a gap somewhere. Inspection isn’t just an inside job either. Technicians want to look at places like foundation gaps, utility lines, door seals, vents, siding, roof edges, and garages. These are all places where small openings can develop and go unnoticed.

Then there's the matter of finding out why rodents are going inside. Do they want a bite of the birdseed or pet food in the garage? Are they rooting through garbage like tiny raccoons? Are they building nests in firewood stacked up against the foundation? These are all clues that tell the inspector if the rodents are active and, if so, what they're doing.

From here, the inspection can become a plan. Current rodents may need trapping or bait stations. Entry points may need exclusion work. Food, water, or shelter conditions may need to be reduced. The evidence comes first, then the plan comes from the evidence.

A professional rodent inspection and control plan is especially useful when the evidence is obvious but the route is not. Otherwise, you might end up endlessly chasing new mice while you shoo away the old ones.

If you have a rodent infestation, Mosquito Squad of Central New Hampshire can help. A technician can inspect the property and recommend professional rodent control based on what is actually happening there. Call (603) 546-2988 or request a free quote online.
