F.A.Q.

How often should I get my yard sprayed for mosquitoes?

Spray your yard every 2–3 weeks throughout the active mosquito season. Treatments wear off over time, so regular re-treatment means mosquitoes never have a chance to recover and the population will remain small.

You want to manage the mosquitoes on your property, but you don’t want to overdo it. Too much treatment is wasteful, and too little feels pointless. So naturally, you want to get the timing right.

Every 2–3 weeks is the sweet spot for mosquito treatments. This advice is based on how long professional barrier treatments stay effective. Once applied to surfaces like vegetation, it binds to them and leaves a residue that knocks down mosquitoes on contact. But that residue will slowly fade away over time due to sun and rain exposure. Reapplying the treatment means mosquitoes never have a chance to recover their numbers.

Mosquitoes need very little time to breed. A female mosquito that survives treatment can lay eggs within days of a blood meal. Those eggs need as little as 7 days to be adults, and a female can lay 100–200 at a time. The upshot of these facts is that a four-week gap between treatments gives a full new generation time to emerge and get established on your property.

In Bergen and Passaic Counties, the active season typically runs from April or May through September or October, depending on the year. That means roughly 8–10 treatments across a full season. Starting early is more effective than waiting for the population to peak and then trying to knock it back down after the fact.

Consistency is the single biggest factor in seasonal mosquito control success. A perfectly timed single treatment can give you three weeks of relief, give or take a few days. But the cumulative effect of regular treatments across a full season is what keeps the overall population suppressed on your property month after month. Each application builds on the last, preventing the population from spiraling out of control mid-summer.
