Dengue Fever is a mosquito-borne illness caused by the West Nile Virus and is indigenous to the tropics and subtropics. The World Health Organization puts out the following information regarding Dengue Fever symptoms:

“Dengue should be suspected when a high fever (40°C/104°F) is accompanied by 2 of the following symptoms: severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands or rash. Symptoms usually last for 2–7 days, after an incubation period of 4–10 days after the bite from an infected mosquito.”

There were 24 confirmed cases of dengue fever in the Tampa Bay area last year. According to Time Magazine Walter Tabachnick; director of the Florida Medical Entomological Laboratory had this to say about dengue fever in Florida:

“Sooner or later, our mosquitoes will pick it up and transmit it to us. That is the imminent threat."
