The first and probably best option is to leave your Christmas tree in the garage for the first couple days to allow insects to leave their shelter in the tree. The next option you have is to give the tree a good shake before bringing it inside. By dislodging insects and their eggs from decorations, you dramatically improve your chances of avoiding an encounter with one inside. If you do happen to see a tick in your tree, make sure to remove it quickly. Ticks are very resilient insects and can be difficult to eliminate. One method of removal is by sealing it in a plastic bag and proceeding to throw it in the trash. Ticks are known to carry various diseases like Lyme disease, which can be devastating for those who contract it. When ticks return this spring and summer, it is important to know where you can find effective tick control.
