Although we wipe out 90% or more of the mosquitoes in your yard, you may still get a couple bites and will get a lot of bites elsewhere as you venture into the Massachusetts outdoors. As your local mosquito experts, we wanted to share some of the top natural remedies for soothing the itch. We can note that there are a number of commercially available creams, lotions and ointments but want to share some otherwise popular itch killers.

We found well over 40 ideas on the Internet that claim to take care of a mosquito bite itch. Mostly old wives’ tales and home remedies, but here are some of the all-time most popular mosquito itch remedies we’ve been hearing about.

Smash an aspirin with a bit of water to make a thick paste. Dab the paste onto the mosquito bite and let it dry.

Get a spoon very hot by running hot water onto it. Apply the back of the spoon directly to the mosquito bite until the spoon is no longer hot. They say the heat will destroy the protein that caused the reaction and the itching will stop. **Don’t burn yourself.**

Apply clear nail polish directly to the mosquito bite and let it dry. This is great when you need quick relief and you can’t find any of the other remedies mentioned in your at home supplies.

Similar to the aspirin remedy, you’ll want to add a little bit of water to a little bit of baking soda to make a nice thick paste. Apply a dab to the mosquito bite and let it dry.

Apply a sliced lemon or lime directly to the itchy spot. For an easier alternative grab your lemon or lime juice out of the refrigerator and dab that on for quick relief.

While we haven’t tried them all, we are noticing that these itch relief tips are being shared by those who have tried them:

  • Dab on Peppermint Toothpaste
  • Rub the itchy spot with the inside of a Banana Peel
  • Rub a dry bar of soap over your mosquito bumps
  • Dab baby shampoo onto the bite and let it dry
  • Dab rubbing alcohol on the bite
  • Rub your mosquito bite with antiperspirant deodorant
  • Apply Vicks Vapo Rub to your itchy mosquito bites

That was just a taste of what we have commonly heard and seen. Do a quick google search and you won’t even know where to begin. There’s even a Pinterest page dedicated to it. While some of these at home remedies might work fantastically, we know you’d prefer to avoid the itchy dangerous bites all together.
