Mark and Larry’s story goes way, way back. These two lifelong friends and neighbors have known each other since they were kids. In their youth, they both served in the military for about three years; Mark was deployed to Hawaii and Larry to Korea. Mark went on to be a detective for his local sheriff’s office and retired from the force after 25 years. Larry went into maintenance and construction, and most recently was flipping houses. Who was there with him? You guessed it—Mark.
Unfortunately, Mark contracted Lyme disease from a tick while working on a house. “I got Lyme disease and was sick of being torn up by mosquitoes when working on our rentals or flips in evenings and on weekends. I wanted training in mosquito control and found several mosquito control companies. I called each one and asked a lot of questions. Mosquito Squad stood out as the industry leader.” Shortly thereafter, when Mark wanted to become an owner, who was there with him? You guessed it—Larry.
Not surprisingly, this lifelong team has been successful, which Mark attributes to good old fashioned customer service and values: “I learned by my father to always do work you do not have to do by contract and to give them extra. Always take care of my customers with best-in-class customer service. Have a great product at an affordable price, and re-service quickly if needed. This, I believe is the secret to success in my Mosquito Squad business.”
Both Mark and Larry were looking to be owners for a relatively short time period, to help bridge the gap until officially retiring. In their small town of about 8,000 people in Wisconsin, they knew they wanted to sell to people they knew would take care of the business. They hired Noah as a technician, realized he was a great employee, and brought the idea of future ownership up to him. He was interested, so they started training. Noah then brought on his cousin, Dallas, to focus on the sales aspect while Noah is in charge of all training initiatives and training himself to eventually take over as co-owner with Dallas.
