Work from home expectation: The kids are quietly doing their work and you’re typing along as a light breeze flows through the living room.
Work from home reality: The kids are fighting and refusing to do their classwork, your dog got out of the house because your youngest one left the back gate open (again), and your laptop camera won’t work for the third day in a row.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
While we know not everyone has the luxury of working from home right now, we hope those of you who do find a few laughs in the below.
Working from Home as a Parent
Over the past few weeks, parents have come to learn a lot about themselves, their kids, and just how much they love their office.
Teachers deserve a raise.
With schools across the country temporarily closed, millions of parents are turning their dining room table into a classroom.
If we didn’t know it before, we sure do now — teachers are some of the hardest working, most dedicated people we know.
Sitting on the couch for 8 hours a day isn’t nearly as enjoyable as it sounds.
A few weeks ago, the idea of working from home and relaxing on the couch all weekend seemed like a dream come true. But now that we’re actually forced to do that? Not so much. When you don’t even have the option to turn down plans, you miss them that much more.
Lunch breaks aren’t exactly breaks.
Gone are the days of running to your favorite sandwich shop with coworkers in between work.
When you have kids to take care of, your lunch break quickly becomes the time you throw peanut butter on bread and try to figure out what’s going on with your 10-year-old’s math homework.
Loungewear is acceptable work attire now.
If you’re like most people, you haven’t thrown on jeans in weeks, much less a suit or dress pants. However, that’s not to say you should spend all day in your pajamas.
Especially if you’ll be working from home for the foreseeable future, make sure to change out of last night’s pajamas before the day starts. While you don’t have to get dressed like you would for a regular workday, throw on your favorite loungewear and save the sweats for after 5 p.m.
You’ll do just about anything to keep your kids happy and quiet when you’re on the phone.
Did you ever think you’d miss your office’s conference rooms? Working from home when you have kids is anything but easy. If your little ones are always asking, “who are you talking to?” encourage them to burn off some energy by playing outside — chalk, coloring, water balloon fight, toy-made obstacle course, or an old fashioned race.
But let’s be honest, at the end of the day, we know you’re fortunate for this time together!
With all this time spent outdoors, make sure your yard is prepped. At Mosquito Squad, we’re proud to eliminate annoying mosquitoes and ticks from the backyards of families across the nation and around the world. Visit our site or give us a call today!
